Informationen zum Host
Our guesthouse is now in the fourth generation of the same family. Bought originally by the present owner's grandfather from "Hans" who was quite a small man. In Bavarian dialect, if you want to say something is small you add "le" to the end of a word and so the guesthouse became known as "Hanselewirt" - translating to small Hans' guesthouse. Up until 1989, there was a bakery also in the guesthouse, that is why there is a large pretzel still on the sign at the front door. The house itself can be traced back to the mid 17th century and has changed many times over the years.
I came to Hanselewirt with my sister in 1994 as a student from Dublin, Ireland to work in the kitchen and rooms for the summer while on college break. I came back the following year for good having fallen for my future husband! We are no longer married, but great friends and work very well together. Maybe some day one of our daughters will take over!
There are so many things to do when staying in Schwangau that many of our guests extend there stay. Originally coming to visit Neuschwanstein Castle but then staying on because they realise there is a lot more to Schwangau than "just" our spectacular castle "Neuschwanstein". We have the Tegelberg mountain with cable car, part of the Ammer Alps. On a clear day you get spectacular views and can watch the paragliders and in winter also the skiers. We also have a fantastic thermal bath in the town "Königliche Kristall Therme", which has indoor and outdoor pools as well as various saunas and massage treatments. Definitely worth a visit. We also have many beautiful lakes. The most popular, in summer being lake Forggen, on which you can take a boat trip between June and October. We have so many spectacular cycle routes for all types of bikes, we can also provide you with maps. Take a day out to wander through the mountains and stop off at one of our many stunning mountain huts. Visit our neighbouring town of Füssen, maybe too loud to stay in but definitely worth exploring the old town and castle during the day.
